2+2 forum hacked and has been shut down, while twoplustwo investigate the security breach, is the poker news that has caused a huge tremor today and will cause plenty of after shocks if it continues for long.

There had been a previous warning about email security over the last month, so it would seem that the security issue was never resolved and has now got worse.

The worse news for some 2+2 forum members was this email message sent out by Mr forum-master today

e-mail addresses and passwords on the Two Plus Two forums should be considered compromised. If you have used your 2+2 password on any other site, you are advised to change it

Will poker scammers, people planning to do naughty poker things and perhaps some poker sites take this opportunity to do their nefarious deeds – as it is a good day to bury bad news …

Dear Two Plus Two Members,

On April 26th at approximately 11:20 AM pacific time, the Two Plus Two Forums were closed as a result of a hacker who has displayed the ability to access e-mail addresses and encrypted passwords. He also indicated the ability to decrypt passwords.

While it is unclear the extent of data to which he gained access, e-mail addresses and passwords on the Two Plus Two forums should be considered compromised. If you have used your 2+2 password on any other site, you are advised to change it.

For your security, we are closing the forums until the breach is patched. Upon reopening the forums you will be forced to change your password – it is counterproductive to do so now.

We hope to be back up as soon as possible.

2+2 forum closed – the end of the world?

The fact that the 2+2 forum is closed due to the hacking is bad enough but what will be the knock on effects? Some players seem to spend all day on the site hitting the refresh button. 2+2 is a forum but with the amount of members the posting of replies can seem like a chat box discussion instead.

The 2+2 shut down will be viewed by some as worse than Black Friday and for those from the USA a total destruction (temporarily?) of their online poker world.

With no indication of how long the security issue will take to be resolved the other poker forums out there, that seem to be like wilted plants in the Giant Beanstalk shadow of 2+2, may have their hours or even days in the sunshine.
