With Calvin Ayre being indicted this week he now has the chance to show that he is the true Defender of the online poker Faith.
Calvin Ayre has always insisted that the US actions to ban online poker in their country and for their people is not legal. With the charges against him of conducting an illegal gambling business and a Money laundering conspiracy, Calvin Ayre now has the perfect opportunity to prove it.
I see this as abuse of the US criminal justice system for the commercial gain of large US corporations. It is clear that the online gaming industry is legal under international law and in the case of these documents is it also clear that the rule of law was not allowed to slow down a rush to try to win the war of public opinion
Although any sane man would not want a day in court, and he may do his best to avoid it, Calvin Ayre has the perfect opportunity to bring the US online poker house of cards tumbling down. As Calvin Ayre is insistent that his and Bodog’s actions are legal he will be able to show the sham that is the 2006 UIGEA and all the actions since by the US Authorities.
It reminds you of the situation faced by George Galloway in 2005 when accused of profiteering from the Oil for Food Programme in Iraq. In what is perhaps the greatest defense of all time George Galloway went before the US Senate and totally destroyed them.
Let’s hope that if it unfortunately gets that far for Calvin Ayre, that his time before the US Authorities will be similar and he will be hailed as the Defender of the online poker Faith.
