Doyle Brunson has been awarded the first Epic Poker lifetime card meaning he is invited and can play at all the future Epic Poker League tournaments.
This is a shrewd move by the Epic Poker League. It rewards Doyle Brunson and recognises what he has done for poker – from his road grinding days, WSOP bracelets, Super System etc.
It is free advertising for the Epic Poker League as every poker news site, forum and player will report on this and discuss the Epic Poker League.
And very sad to say the ‘lifetime’ of the card may not have that many years to run. Although knowing the old codger Doyle Brunson and betting he does have some life last longer bets he will outlast a few other poker celebrities around!
Doyle Brunson has said previously that he wouldn’t be playing in the recent Epic Poker League tournament. This was confirmed in Doyle Brunsons Epic lifetime invitation acceptance speech and ceremony that he will not be playing many more poker tournaments and will be concentrating on cash games.
Daniel Negreanu has also come out saying he wont be playing in any of the Epic Poker League tournaments, although this is for very different reasons than Doyle Brunson.

Epic Poker League Standards and Conduct Committee – judge, jury and hangman
The Epic Poker League have a committee who decide if a poker player is worthy to be allowed to take part in the Epic Poker Tour. Members are judged and given ratings and this converts to membership cards with 1,2 or more years invitation to play in the Epic tournaments.
The EPL Standards and Conduct Committee has a number of members and they include Matt Savage, Eric Baldwin, Andy Bloch, Joe Hachem, Alec Torelli and Commissioner Annie Duke who has no voting powers.
Poker players are not just judged on their poker ability as ‘Poker ethics’ come into play – meaning poker players who have been naughty in the past or now can be turned down from being a member or have their membership suspended. Annie Duke – the sister of Howard Lederer – was obviously in a sticky wicket situation with her brothers recent Full Tilt fiasco. Annie Duke is considered by some to be slightly tarnished with the Absolute Poker scandal and her association with Howard Lederer.
Epic Poker League – Epic Fail or success?
Daniel Negreanu’s stance against the whole Epic Poker League is based on a number of reasons and they include that he doesn’t like the name and does not think it will be a financial success long term especially after Black Friday. You can read the full reasons and his reasoning in his blog.
Perhaps another reason is that Annie Duke is involved and her and Daniel Daniel Negreanu seem to absolutely hate each other in private and in public.
