It’s our traditional Thursday round up of poker crime and this week we have some great poker crime stories. We will start with poker crime from inside the online poker industry and it is not Full Tilt Poker this time!
William Wallace was one of the youngest Poker Managers in the online industry and working for Betfred.com in Gibraltar. He was actually the Poker Product Manager or Head of Poker for Betfred, meaning he was in charge of the Poker Department.
Over 6 or 18 months he credited money and bonuses to his mates account for Wallace to gamble with and his friend to withdraw. Officially a total of £16,236 was poker crime robbed before the situation was noted and the appropriate action taken. The outside Europort smoking area rumours at the time of his arrest suggested the real figure was much more and a report on his arrest suggested over £23,000. Today’s Europort smoking area rumour is that Betfred actually knew of his activities before his arrest and tried to help him but he could not help himself from helping himself.
William Wallace has already had the joy of spending 4 months in the infamous Gibraltar prison with the company of Moroccans at night and has 2 more to do. Months that is, not Moroccans. And not even with a TV for distraction or a pillow to bite!
At least he should be able to win enough cigarettes per day playing poker to buy favours, protection and the odd ounce of snuff. Always remember folks do not try this at home and if you do the Poker Crime you do the time. Or maybe not as we shall see with Full Tilt, PokerStars and Bodog.com.
HitmanForHire.net
This is an old story and it does not have any poker in it apart from the fact that the Hitman For Hire was a Poker Dealer at the Bellagio. But it is great and passes away the time for those online poker players who are waiting to play on Full Tilt or PokerStars Zoom Poker. Or US residents.
It seems that Essam Ahmed Eid set up the cleverly disguised but great SEO Key Worded website HitmanForHire.net where you could hire him to be your Hitman.
But he was an honest Hitman and instead of doing the Hit that he had been paid for he would turn up and blackmail the intended victim to pay him money to not kill them. Sometimes the best sites and ideas are the simplest.

B.P. aka the Baron and Bulgarians
*** SPOILER ALERT *** For those who instantly thought “What has poker got to do with Voltaire’s Candide and the Buglarians killing the Baron?”, you are correct. We do not think it has anything to do with it but you never know, as you might have to be Bulgarian to understand the title of this poker crime story or maybe its “lost in translation”.
In Sofia 20 people were arrested at an illegal gambling club and it was a proper old school gambling joint at that. One that the Devilfish would have felt right at home. After a couple of months investigation the Bulgarian General Directorate for Fight against Organised Crime made their move and those arrested included wapists, wobbers, fwaudsters and woderwick.
The illegal gambling club rake and profit for its poker and other gambling games was between BGN 10,000 to BGN 50,000 a day ($3.24 to $18.72). Actually those figures might be wrong and it was between EUR 5,000 and up to EUR 50,000.
You will be pleased to know that the poker crime was done in the poker crime way we have all come to expect recently. The club where this den of iniquity took place was rented out by a member of the Bulgarian Party. Who has been only identified as B.P. aka The Baron.
How famous do you have to be to be known by your initials and everyone know it is you? Although not sure how it works to hide your identity if everyone can guess who you are.
