Moneybookers, the online payment processor that dominates the online gambling world and, to those of us who are surprised that there is such a thing as the non poker world, Moneybooker is changing its name to Skrill.

Moneybookers, known as one of the biggest and best payment processors, will eventually become Skrill, which is about as different a name change as you can think of. Rebranding of massive brands is not new – Datsun to Nissan, Norwich Union became Aviva but perhaps the most famous and expensive were the BP rebranding campaigns. The British Petroleum Company spent over 100 million in 1989 to become BP and in 2000 they spent over 200 million to change their logo and image again.
What’s your Skrill?
The Moneybookers Digital Wallet rebranding to Skrill is due to the fact that now most of its customers are not online gambling related but from virtual goods and social gaming marketing. Another very good reason for Moneybookers changing their name to Skrill is that most of Moneybookers users are not native English speakers. To these and non gamblers Moneybookers either means nothing or actually implies to these potential customers that they are something to do just with sports bookmakers and high street bookies.

As Betsson or Moneybookers might say in the future – what’s your Skrill?
