No more Freezeout tournaments on Winning Poker Network

Americas Cardroom (Winning Poker Network) has made the initially surprising but logical step of changing ALL their MTT Freezeout tournaments to their “Re entry” tournaments (Rebuy tournaments but you get seated at a different table) that they had previously announced and introduced.

No more Freezeouts on the Winning Poker Network

The Winning Network have said that the “Re entry” tournaments have proved so popular that they are now replacing all Freezeouts with this type of tournament structure. So no matter whether you call them Re entry, Rebuy, Re entry Freezeouts or whatever takes your fancy, there will not be any Old School Freezeout tournaments for you to play.

Why no more Freezeouts on Winning Network?

The pokerQ4 Consultancy team has suggested a few reasons for this decision:

Increase tournament guarantees

This is not just because the Re entry tournaments are so popular but it is to do with the fact that Rebuy tournaments increase the prize pools. The Winning Poker Network and its skins can then advertise increased guaranteed tournament prize pools per month. This can only help to attract players and hopefully stem any flow of players away from the network.

One of the first signs of a poker site or network that is in trouble or has got their latest tournament schedule wrong, is when they have to reduce tournament guarantees. Increasing guarantees is usually a sign that you have got it right or are investing in your site. It is the same for any individual tournament – if you have to constantly reduce its guarantee then just replace it with a new tournament type instead of spending lots of wasted effort and money on tournament CPR.

Rebuy tournament strategy then and now

The no more Freezeout MTT poker news can only help benefit the tighter rakeback grinders that are attracted to the Winning Poker Network and sites like Americas Cardroom due to its rather nice guaranteed 27% rakeback, accepting US players and a $1,000 sign up bonus.

Poker rebuy tournaments tactics have changed dramatically over the years. When they first came about a lot of players were told that you had to keep rebuying and going crazy during the rebuy period to get the chips to win it. Also, that if you did not rebuy you were costing yourself long term equity. Perhaps this rebuy strategy was encouraged by the sites themselves? Especially those that charged a fee on all the rebuys and addons.

Now that general advice has changed with sites like PokerStrategy and especially the absolute grinding players from the poorer Eastern European countries (for example igrach.com and his Bulgarians hordes before he sold the site) who taught their members to never rebuy in a non special rebuy tournament.

The reasoning goes along the lines that if you do not rebuy then you are increasing your equity as others are putting in a higher share of money than you are. Even though you may want to play this tournament tonight it will be back on tomorrow or next week.

Free publicity means extra bums on seats

And another reason for the introduction of only Re entry tournaments? Any news is free publicity and potentially extra seats on bums for bum hunters to hunt. Ask Ultimate Bet and Absolute Poker whose player numbers went up after the Super User scandal gave it lots of free publicity!
