PokerStars Limit Hold’em Challenge - It was announced on the PokerStars blog on Wednesday that the Fixed Limit world is to be set alight this weekend as Daniel Negreanu takes on limit legend rUaBot in the Fixed Limit version of the Durrr Challenge.
At 14:00 Eastern Time (19:00 GMT), KidPoker and rUaBot will start with a $75,000 bankroll each, spread across two tables, and will play 1,250 hands of $200/$400 Heads-up limit hold’em – the winner will be declared the inaugural PokerStars Limit Hold’em Challenge Champion.
For many limit poker is about as enthralling as the first half of today’s FA Cup Final between Chelsea and Liverpool, and the prospect of watching it much the same, but with PokerStars throwing their weight behind the game with a challenge like this we could potentially see a resurgence in the game if the Limit Hold’em Challenge proves a success.
Of course the cynic might say that PokerStars are doing this simply to drive players into limit games – games where they make more rake due to there being many more flops seen versus No Limit – but we say boo to that. Fixed Limit is a great game, and you’ll never truly be a great No Limit player if you don’t understand the principles and the mathematics behind limit poker.
rUaBot on Limit Hold’em:
“In my opinion, fixed limit is more strategic than no limit. In no-limit, you always have some guessing games like ‘would he bluff here or wouldn’t he?.’ Of course, such situations often happen in fixed-limit, too, but there is much more space for general strategic adaptions than in no-limit. I think, setting up your standard game is pure math, but exploiting your opponents patterns is an art…and will always be!”
According the PokerStars blog, the Limit Hold’em Challenge will be the first in a series as they invite the best high stakes in the world players in the world to compete heads-up.
