You walk up to a Casino cash game and when you sit down you are in the the middle of a worrying discussion around the table. Something must have triggered it for it to be brought up. They are talking about friends or groups of players at the table not colluding with each other. They are all confirming to the others that they never collude with the person they have turned up with or sitting beside.
Not the greatest sign. If it was an online cash game its like sitting at a short handed table with 5 players from Nigeria in the other seats. If you sit down then you can not complain if they collude and take your money. You are a willing victim in that scenario. But with live poker you don’t have much choice but to watch yours and theirs backs. Obviously now its been aired people are going to be careful so you may have come at the right time …
There appears to be 3 not colluding teams on the table not colluding against the other not colluding teams. The usual lines of “Although we are the bestest of bestest mates we try and take each others chips”. I will advise any poker player who has not played live cash games before never say this line. It’s an amazing curse as these players never appear to have a good enough hand to ever stack their mates who they are not colluding with. A not self fulfilling profitsy.
Its a normal crazy cash game at the local casino. Mr 3 and 4 bettor Skandi doing his Skandi thing. Thank God the Germans and Hitler were not Skandi’s, imagine what the Skandi’s would have come up with if the Blitzkrieg was only the Lightning War? The game is all about raises and re raises and perhaps realsqueeze plays if you are sitting between not colluding friends.
One couple and they are a couple are in love. In love so much that they hold hands during some hands. When asked about a poker hand the man even answered with the word “us” … when it was a question aimed at the lady of his life or, as they are known in poker, his bettor half. At least “us” are not colluding in this cash game then.
A few hours later, after all the crazyness and even a 2 player €2000 pot in a €0.50/€1 cash game, the male half of us raises pre flop and gets 1 caller. The other half of us has actually called and now us are heads up for the first time on a 8 handed table. In about 3 hours. The flop and the board is J 8 5 3 2 with no flush draws or anything. It is the best board you could hope for if you had anything slightly decent or nothing at all to bluff at it.
With all the aggression at the table not one hand has got past the turn without someone stabbing at it or re raising it. Not one hand. Obviously both of us check it down and in an amazing not colluding move, none of us bet on the river. Whoops.
They are both forced to turn over their cards by the dealer because of the outraged table, to prove that they are not colluding. After all as they are not colluding and we have to see one of the hands anyway, it can not hurt and will stop any suspicion of cheating by an up and coming tournament pro from the Ukraine. The man turns over pocket queens and the other prettier half pocket nines. It was a very very scary board after all. Pandemonium ensues.
